There are types of captivity, but the type that abounds today comes from addiction and abuse. Our actions in life do one of two things; they bind us or they make us free. By making the correct choices we can continue to grow, progress, and live unhindered by cumbersome baggage. It will not always be easy, but it will create a freer, more complete life. If we constantly chose things that drag us down, we find ourselves stumbling along in an ungainly, jarring fashion.
Like the horse, they move forward, but without grace or finesse and with more effort and trial than another who gives to the subtle pressure and gentle guidance of a knowing hand. While it might initially be viewed as a restriction, the guidance received allows the horse to move with more fluid grace and balance than initially thought possible. Not only does he become graceful, fluid, and balanced on the ground, but carrying the extra weight of a rider, the burden of another, he moves effortlessly.

Love the message in this! Incredible work, good moral. Great altogether.

Thank you! It took some fancy editing and revising to get all that in the description without losing the meaning of the original text. I really enjoyed working on this piece and it was a challenge to think of ways to work out the message visually.

Well, you did really well! Charcoal gives me trouble, which makes me love the picture even more!

Thanks again. I really struggle with the medium this year, and even in this piece as I tried to get it to do what I wanted. The fortunate thing about Charcoal, especially on good paper, is that you can go back and rework it quite a bit.
